RIP Peter Munk of Porto Montenegro

Peter Munk, Canadian entrepreneur and developer of Porto Montenegro, died on 28th March 2018, aged 90.

He made his first fortune from his Goldstrike mine in Nevada, which he bought in 1986. But it was his Pacific Rim hotel chain that gave him the experience to see through the transformation of a defunct naval base in Tivat to the world-class yacht marina and resort that is Porto Montenegro today (which was also home to his superyacht Golden Eagle).

Porto Montenegro was sold to the Investment Corporation of Dubai for £221.6 million in 2016.

It is well worth a visit while you are holidaying in Montenegro, and not just for the mega yachts and super restaurants! Make time to visit the museum, and crawl inside the Hero class submarine.

And for real maritime history fans, don't miss the submarine pens outside Rose on Lustica - an astonishing relic of times gone by.
